Marine conservation vessel MAKO moved to the Ionian Sea
In consultation with our sponsors and partner Healthy Seas, our loyal marine conservation survey & diving vessel M/V MAKO has moved. The bad weather conditions in the Dutch North Sea, which blocked too many of our planned activities from going ahead, forced us to make this decision. The good news (and that’s just how you look at it) is that MAKO is very much needed in another country, namely Greece. The pollution caused by lost fishing gear but also abandoned fish farms, so-called “Ghost Farms” is so massive in this country that MAKO will be desperately needed here. MAKO‘s new home base is now Vathy, Ithaca. From this iconic and beautiful island she will be deployed for future marine conservation projects and clean-up activities in the Ionian Sea and even beyond.
Get ready to see MAKO in action a lot more than has been possible before, that’s what she was built for, after all.
