A Year of Impact and Collaboration: Healthy Seas’ 2024 Annual Report
Our partner in crime, Healthy Seas Foundation, is proud to present its 2024 Annual Report, inviting you to explore the impactful initiatives and partnerships that have advanced our shared mission.
Tackling Ghost Farms in Greece
In partnership with Hyundai Motor Europe, Healthy Seas addressed the pressing issue of abandoned fish farms, known as “ghost farms,” along Greece’s western coast. Through a series of operations, they successfully removed substantial amounts of marine litter, including hazardous fishing nets, from these sites. This effort not only restored the natural beauty and health of these waters but also underscored the importance of sustainable aquaculture practices.
Expanding Educational Outreach
Education remains a cornerstone of the Healthy Seas mission. This year, they extended our programs to university students, engaging future educators, high school graduates, and students in agriculture and aquaculture disciplines. By integrating ocean conservation into curricula and raising awareness about issues like abandoned fish farms and plastic pollution, they’re inspiring the next generation to become stewards of our seas.
Building Partnerships in Ghana
Healthy Seas’ global reach expanded as we partnered with Chaint Afrique and Karün in Ghana. They hosted educational events with local fishers participating in Chaint Afrique’s fishing net collection program and organized community clean-ups in some of the country’s most polluted estuaries. These initiatives aim to reduce the impact of abandoned, lost, or discarded fishing gear and promote recycling within local communities.
Collaborating with Olympic Athletes and Influencers
In partnership with arena, Healthy Seas joined forces with Olympic swimmers Florian Wellbrock, Gregorio Paltrinieri, and Drew Kibler for underwater clean-up missions in Germany, Italy, and the USA. These efforts not only removed harmful ghost nets but also raised global awareness about marine conservation.
Engaging Thousands in Educational Initiatives
Through workshops, seminars, and community events, Healthy Seas engaged thousands of individuals in educational programs, fostering a deeper understanding of marine conservation issues and inspiring collective action.
